A SURGE OF POWER (CHANNEL 4 NEWS) - Award-winning news piece - During the Black Lives Matter march in Bristol, the statue of slave trader Edward Colston was torn down and thrown into the river. Caught up in the excitement of the moment, Jen Reid stood up on the plinth and raised her fist in honour of George Floyd and the many black people who have lost their lives at the hands of the police around the world. Her husband, Al Reid, posted an image of this event which quickly went viral, capturing the attention of artist Marc Quinn who immediately set about creating a statue of Jen to be placed (under cover of darkness) on the empty plinth.
